3 types of NYC Helicopter Tours
Zip Aviation offers three public helicopter tours of NYC called the Liberty Harbor tour lasting 12 to 15 minutes, Big City tour lasting 18 to 20 minutes, and Grand Island tour lasting 25 to 30 minutes. All three helicopter tours take off from and land at the Downtown Manhattan Heliport on Pier 6, East River.
The Liberty Harbor tour flies over the Buttermilk Channel between Brooklyn and Governor’s Island, around the Statue of Liberty, past Ellis Island, and north up the Hudson River past One World Trade Center, 9/11 Memorial, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Times Square, U.S.S. Intrepid, and Central Park. It turns back south in the middle of the Hudson River abeam Central Park to see the sites again heading southbound. The Big City tour takes the same route, but continues north up the Hudson River, over the George Washington Bridge, past Yankee Stadium, Columbia University, Grant’s Tomb, the Bronx, then turns back southbound near the Palisades Cliffs in New Jersey. The Grand Island tour takes the same route as the Big City, but before the Statue of Liberty detours south to the Verrazano Bridge and Coney Island.

The public helicopter tours fit four to six people per helicopter. Private helicopter tours can be arranged for the same FAA-approved routes or private charters are available to detour from that route. The heliport mandates a $30 per person heliport fee.
